Louise Belton

Louise joined Grange Moor in 2009 after her dad was getting fed up of us asking him to help us out! When not at band, or practicing, Louise just loves doing all her school work.

Leisa Mallalieu

Seat: Solo Cornet
Lives: Brighouse
Favorite test piece: Resurgam/ Between the Moon and Mexico
Best banding moment: Winning the National Youth Brass Band Championships with Stockport Senior Band and helping out the YBS Band in Belgium
Leisa began playing the Tenor Horn at Kingsway School in Stockport at the age of 11. At 15 she made the transition to cornet joining the Stockport schools Intermediate band, progressing onto the senior band in just one year. She also joined Flixton Band on 2nd cornet, one year later taking the Principal cornet seat which she held for 2 years prior to moving to Huddersfield to study music at the University.
On moving to Huddersfield Leisa joined Skelmanthorpe Band on solo cornet and was given the opportunity to play solos with the band after winning Dobcross slow melody contest 2 years running and Elland slow melody contest. After a short spell on principal cornet with Holme Silver, Leisa joined Yorkshire co-op on flugel horn.
Leisa has previously received tuition from Peter Hadfield, Brett Baker and Phillip McCann and has recently finished her music degree at Huddersfield University and is planning on continuing her studies to become a primary school teacher.

Warren Gillibrand

Best banding moment: Beating British Leyland in a Northwest competition in 1981!
Warren brought his son Aaron, up to the Grange Moor Concert Brass (Tuesday) band one night and he's still playing with both bands. Warren started playing and learning the cornet when he was 6. He played for Preston Youth and Senior brass bands in the mid 70's to early 80's. At 18 he left college to join a rock band, to play full time bass guitar. After one year and hundreds of gigs in the UK, he decided that he had to leave to get a real job! Warren's last band position, before moving to Yorkshire, was solo horn with the Preston concert band.

David Jenkinson

David helps out the band (and various other bands and ensembles as well) when he can as he's busy with work and perparing to continue his studies at university to become an engineer!

Elly Jones

Lives: Leeds (when at school)
Elly, originally from the West Country, came up to Leeds in 2008 to study music at Leeds University and so she decided to join Grange Moor. When not at band Elly enjoys practicing to her heart's content and doing whatever it is that students do.

Valerie Hope

Best Banding Moment: First concert in Harrogate band stand playing cornet for the first time
Val joins the back row previously from playing a........... string instrument! However, Val came to her senses and joined a brass band! Joining in 2001, Val learnt the cornet from scratch and can surely boast to have given 110% in effort and commitment.
When not at band Val likes going to gym, using Sibelius to arrange music and walking her rather lively dog!

Gary Goodall

Best Banding Moment: Winning the Yorkshire Areas and being Yorkshire Champions...... again!
Gary is living in Grange Moor and has been with the band since 2001. When not at band he likes walking, stock car racing and shockingly practising the cornet. By far one of the bands contender for most improved member of the band, and a good job too as the Images of the Millenium saw a tricky 3rd cornet part!

Andy joined the band is 2003, previously playing for Hartshead Brass, Wilsden Band and Emley Band. When not at band he enjoys spending time caravaning with his family.

Graham Ervine

Best Banding Moment: When the band was promoted to the first section and that he had been part of that winning team
Graham is currently taking a break from banding to organise his own carpet and flooring business, so good luck to Graham and we'll see you soon!
Graham known as Barney Rubble (Fred Flintstone's little fat friend) has been with Grange Moor band for 9 years having previously only played with a school band until retiring at the tender age of 16 years old.
After hearing Grange Moor band playing at Morrisons during the Christmas period of 2008, he came out of retirement 21 years later and the band have been making him sound good ever since. Graham says that the most enjoyable part of banding is being associated with such seriously nice people throughout the movement.

Kathryn Evans

Best Banding Moment: Quizes and bingo on band coach trips - and going to the Nationals in Dundee for the first time
Kathryn is currently taking a break from banding, but does come back and help the band when she can! Kathryn lives in Scissett, Huddersfield and works as an infant teacher. Joined the band 1999, having played for Skelmanthorpe B Band previously. When not at band, Kathryn enjoys school work(!), looking after the family and walking the dog!

Karen joined Grange Moor in 2002 and has played various different instruments and parts but has settled back on solo horn. When not at band Karen looks after her son Eliott and husband Paul (the solo euphonium player).

Aaron Gillibrand

Seat: 1st Horn
Lives: Mirfield
Aaron got dragged (by his dad) along to the Grange Moor Concert Brass Band one week and has hung around ever since! After he'd been to Grange Moor Concert Brass for a bit, Aaron was asked to come along to Grange Moor Band and help on horn and he's now a regular fixture at both bands. When not at band Aaron practices his horn all the time and also plays on his xbox or pc (when he hasn't blown them up that is).

Leanne Francis

Leanne re-joined the band in March 2010 (just after the Yorkshire Area contest) after having played with the band a few years earlier. Leanne is currently studying "stuff" at school and just loves spending her spare time driving around the mean streets of West Yorkshire to practice for her driving test.

Catherine Chadwick

Cat joined Grange Moor in 2008 after previously playing with Wetherby Silver Band. When not at band Cat likes looking after her daughter Izzy, practicing her karate and drinking plenty of white wine, or even occaisionally combining the karate and drinking together, leading to kicking coke all over people!

Lisa Shirley

Best Banding Moment: Winning the 2nd section Yorkshire areas in 2006!
Lisa began playing brass instruments at the age of 8. She didn't like her first lesson and cried all the way home, but soon got to grips with playing the trumpet. After spells on the baritone, euphonium, Eb bass and tenor horn, she has finally settled back on the baritone. She joined Grange Moor in 2004, following a few friends from her previous band.
Lisa is a primary school teacher and enjoys long holidays, visiting National Trust properties, eating out and hanging out with her friends.

Paul Wood

Paul has been a member of Grange Moor since July 2002. Before joining Grange Moor Paul previously spent 18 years with Spen Valley Brass (non-contesting band), a couple of years at Diggle, and short spells with Gawthorpe Victoria and Lockwood.

Nathan Abbotts

Lives: Barnsley
Nathan joined the band in 2007 after helping the band out at the Morley march contest (where the band came 5th overall). Before joining Grange Moor Nathan played with the Yorkshire Imps, Yorkshire Co-op, Emley and Barnsley Building Society bands as well as helping a few other bands out along the way.

Granville Parker

Granville came along to the band in 2009 to help fill out the trombone section, but then facied a swap to the bass section! Granville's played with various local band's but is now enjoying his time at Grange Moor!

Tim Grace
Seat: Bb Bass
Best Banding Moment: Being part of the winning team at Grange Moor
Tim joined the band when there were only 10 players in 1998/99 and currently is elected as chairman and treasurer of the band. Previous bands have been: Dewsbury Schools', Thornhill, Yorkshire Bus Co., Grange Moor, Lofthouse & Wilton brass ensemble (to name a few!). When not at band, Tim is usually found fishing in the Lake District.

Thomas Pitts

Seat: Percussion
Thomas joined the band in January 2010 after helping out the band on percussion for the last few years. When he's not at band Thomas loves lesson planning, conducting The Morley and District Concert Band, oh and he also likes pirates too.

Graham Genty
Seat: Percussion
Graham regularly helps the band out on percussion, after all, only living around the corner really helps. In his spare time, Graham's also a headteacher at a local school.
